Marks and Spencer has always been a go to spot for me for a treat Friday night dinner or for bibs that don’t look wrecked after one wash! But up to now I’ve never really thought much of their home line. In previous seasons, I’ve found it bland and sometimes over priced. Cushions over 40 euro anyone?
This week I had a bit of time to myself and took a walk around the home section of the store in Dundrum Town Centre, and I was pleasantly surprised. The colours were great, and most of the soft furnishings I saw looked like they would be at home in Arnotts or House of Fraser.
I found lots of Turkish inspired pots and saucers, some lovely pieces to add some style to a bathroom. A nice copper saucepan range caught my eye too, the detail on the pots was great – they actually look vintage and not too heavy to hold either, which is a nice plus.
( yes Le Creuset I’m looking at you).
And as for the cushions? Well they’ve come down in price it seems. I spotted a lovely yellow velvet one for 27e and some other faux fur ones for 20e, so way more affordable than before. The velvet yellow and blush tones were really spot on for this season, and would look lovely on the new sofa I am going to buy ( in my head). The quality too, was really good. They were soft and the velvet on them felt like they were thick curtains.
But my picks from this season at M&S has to be from the Lighting range. The Loft is a gorgeous, art decoesque leaning tripod floor lamp. Its copper hues, would go with those new saucepans, but no really, its very minimalist and is a really good investment piece at 129e. For some thing more traditional try the Alexa floor lamp, a vintage gold free standing floor lamp which looks like its straight out of the Great Gatsby.
Overall pleasantly surprised then. If a little broke, but i’ll be back for a gander again.
